Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, reporting more than $3.45 million in debt as he faces multiple civil lawsuits.

Rice, 26, filed in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas on Wednesday, according to federal court records obtained by ESPN.

More than $2.1 million of Rice’s debt comes from lawsuits related to a 2024 car crash in Dallas and assault allegations made by a former girlfriend.

Rice also reported $677,054 in personal assets, significantly less than his total listed liabilities.

The Chiefs receiver is currently playing the final season of his rookie contract, which includes a base salary of $1,560,711 for 2026.

Rashee Rice’s Bankruptcy Filing Reveals Details About His Assets and Debts

According to the outlet, Rice filed under Chapter 7 of the federal bankruptcy code.

Chapter 7 allows individuals who cannot pay their debts to seek relief through a process that may involve selling nonexempt assets to repay creditors.

Rice’s filing lists $677,054 in personal assets, including $421,825 in deferred compensation.

He also reported having $13,640 across his checking accounts.

The receiver stated that he rents his residence and does not own real estate.

Of his listed personal assets, Rice identified $39,241 as nonexempt, meaning those assets could potentially be used to repay creditors through the bankruptcy process.

His filing also identifies several creditors connected to civil cases that have either reached settlements or remain unresolved.

The largest listed creditor is owed $979,837 from a 2025 settlement involving the Dallas crash.

Chiefs Receiver Faces Millions in Claims From Civil Lawsuits

Rice’s financial filing comes as he continues to deal with legal consequences from a March 2024 high-speed crash involving multiple vehicles in Dallas.

Several individuals filed civil lawsuits against the Chiefs’ receiver following the incident.

According to the bankruptcy documents, Rice disputes some of the amounts claimed in those proceedings, including a combined $700,000 sought by crash victims.

He also disputes a $200,000 claim connected to a separate civil lawsuit filed by a former girlfriend.

The woman alleges that Rice repeatedly assaulted her between 2023 and 2025.

Those allegations remain part of the civil litigation, and Rice’s bankruptcy filing does not establish that the disputed amounts are owed.

The court documents distinguish between debts connected to completed settlements and claims that remain contested.

Rashee Rice Lists Super Bowl Ring as Collateral in Court Documents

Another detail in Rice’s bankruptcy filing involves his Super Bowl LVIII championship ring.

Rice listed the ring, which he valued at $160,000, as collateral in an arrangement with attorney Thomas McMurray.

McMurray represents Rice in his pending civil litigation.

The filing identifies the ring as security connected to the attorney, although the reported details do not establish that Rice has surrendered ownership of it.

Rice earned the championship ring during his rookie season with Kansas City, when the Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII.

Rashee Rice’s Contract With Chiefs Enters Final Season

Rice’s bankruptcy filing comes during the final year of his four-year rookie contract with Kansas City.

The wide receiver is scheduled to earn $1,560,711 in base salary in 2026.

Through five games this season, Rice has recorded 20 receptions for 243 yards and two touchdowns.

He joined the Chiefs as a second-round selection in the 2023 NFL Draft after playing college football at SMU.

Rice’s contract situation means he is approaching a potential free-agent decision following the season, unless he reaches a new agreement with Kansas City.
