Bruce Springsteen had a message for election officials on Election Day, urging them to protect voters’ constitutional rights and ensure ballots are counted securely.

The Grammy-winning musician shared a video on Instagram Tuesday, addressing government representatives and the people responsible for overseeing elections. He reminded them that their public service comes with an obligation to uphold the Constitution, regardless of outside pressure.

“I’m speaking to election officials and representatives of our government on Election Day,” Springsteen said. “You have sworn an oath to preserve, protect and defend our Constitution. That means you have a solemn duty to ensure that our votes are securely counted.”

He then referenced former President Thomas Jefferson while explaining why he believes officials must protect the voting process.

“Thomas Jefferson said government requires the consent of the governed,” Springsteen continued. “You who represent us must never consent to any directives that undermine our constitutional right to a free and fair election. Our vote is our voice, and it’s up to you to ensure that our voice is heard.”

Springsteen ended the video by thanking election officials for their service.

Springsteen Has Been Vocal About His Political Views

The singer’s latest remarks come amid a long history of publicly criticizing President Donald Trump and supporting Democratic candidates.

Springsteen has endorsed every Democratic presidential nominee since John Kerry in 2004. His most recent presidential endorsement came in 2024, when he backed Kamala Harris.

He has also repeatedly spoken out against Trump’s administration, including the former president’s refusal to concede the 2020 election after losing to Joe Biden. Trump has also floated the possibility of seeking a third term, despite the Constitution’s two-term limit for presidents.

Earlier this week, Springsteen voiced support for Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed. In a post shared on Monday, the musician praised El-Sayed and criticized the current administration.

“Dr. El-Sayed is a fighter for our American Constitution, he’s a fighter for our American Democracy, and he’s a fighter against the corrupt, lawless and anti-American leadership currently in the White House,” Springsteen wrote. “That’s why I’m in his corner 100%.”

The endorsement prompted a dismissive response from the White House. Communications director Steven Cheung told The Independent, “Nobody cares about his endorsement.”

Abdul El-Sayed Faces Campaign Controversy

Springsteen’s endorsement also comes as El-Sayed faces criticism over a political advertisement about U.S. support for Israel.

The ad, released by progressive group Rebellion PAC, linked rising grocery costs to American military aid connected to the conflict in Gaza. It featured a couple shopping for groceries, with the woman telling her partner to put back a carton of eggs.

“We have to set that $7 aside for killing Palestinians,” she said.

The advertisement sparked backlash within the Democratic Party. Rep. Haley Stevens called on El-Sayed to issue a public apology following his criticism of Israel.

El-Sayed’s campaign subsequently clarified that he was not affiliated with Rebellion PAC or the advertisement and did not agree with its contents.
