Sarah Jukaku is the wife of Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed.
According to American Bazaar, Jukaku is a “psychiatrist who has largely stayed out of the political spotlight, Sarah Jukaku comes from a prominent family in coastal Karnataka.” That’s a town located in southern India.
El-Sayed was on the ballot on November 3, 2026, squaring off against Republican Mike Rogers, a former FBI agent and congressman. The race has been fraught with controversy and tension but also high-profile endorsements.
“I’m married to the love of my life who happens to be our next U.S. Senator Abdul El-Sayed,” Jukaku said on the campaign trail.
Abdul El-Sayed’s Wife’s Father Is a Doctor & Her Grandfather Was a Prominent Lawyer

American Bazaar gave some biographical information for Jukaku, reporting that her father, Dr. Jukaku S. Tayeb, “grew up in Bhatkal, while her grandfather, J.H. Shamsuddin Jukaku, was a prominent lawyer, educator and political figure whose contributions are still remembered by residents.”
That site quoted El-Sayed of saying of his wife: “My wife is desi,” a term “commonly used to describe people of South Asian heritage.”
“She’s from the other side of the Partition line,” he added.
According to CBS News, El-Sayed “was born and raised in southeast Michigan. His Egyptian immigrant parents separated when he was a toddler.” His family has fallen under scrutiny in the race, CBS News reported. His wife’s father has too.
El-Sayed and his wife met “at the University of Michigan, where both were prominent members of the Muslim Students’ Association,” CBS News reported. “Her father, Tayeb Jukaku, has held leading positions with Muslim community groups. Jukaku is a kidney doctor and a past president and current board member of CAIR Michigan,” The father also served as a founding member of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), according to CBS News, which noted that both groups have been “the subject of controversy.”
Added CBS: “Both groups were named as unindicted coconspirators in the 2007 Holy Land Foundation federal terrorism trial which found that U.S. nonprofits had funneled more than $12 million to Hamas. Neither ISNA nor CAIR was charged with any crime.” CAIR told CBS: “Our consistent moral stance is the reason that extremist voices on all sides target our civil rights group with conspiracy theories, bigotry and even threats of violence,”
Sarah Jukaku Has Said of Her Husband, ‘What You See Is What You Get’
Jukaku gave a speech about her husband explaining what he’s like outside the “big rallies” and TikTok videos. She said the answer was simple. The video of it was posted by CNN.
In that video, she stated, “With Abdul, what you see is what you get. Abdul is the same to me and my daughters as he is to you. He says the same things no matter where he is, and no matter who he’s talking to because he believes and means those things.”
She added, “And that’s what makes him such an unusual politician. No corporation, no billionaire, no special interest. No one tells him what to do or what to say.”
According to Jukaku, “He will show up for you and your family just as he shows up for me and our family.”
