London’s Metropolitan Police confirmed they sent Meghan Markle a letter outlining several allegations against her father, Thomas Markle Sr.
According to a BBC report published on Saturday, October 24, the Met sent the information to the office of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex but did not share it with other law enforcement agencies.
“Following a thorough review of Met Police systems and records, we have confirmed that in January 2019, we received a letter containing several claims about alleged offending outside the United Kingdom,” Scotland Yard said in a statement.

They added … “It was sent to the MPS Protection Command to raise concerns in relation to the security of the Duchess of Sussex. The letter was reviewed and a decision was made that it should be passed to the office of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for their awareness. The details of the allegations in the letter were not shared with other law enforcement agencies.”
The Met also said it was reviewing its handling of the letter to determine whether the Independent Office for Police Conduct should investigate the matter.

Meghan’s half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr., claimed he discovered videos and photos of child abuse and reported them to the FBI in July.

On Friday, October 23, Meghan broke her silence about the controversy in a statement shared with PEOPLE.
“I am deeply distressed at the news that has come to light in the last 24 hours, and my thoughts are with any children who may have been harmed,” the mother of two said.
Meghan confirmed, “In 2018, a letter was sent to the Metropolitan Police and Royalty and Specialist Protection. That letter was subsequently shared with me. It made troubling and disturbing allegations against my father and I was given assurances that these were being investigated.”
“I hope it can now be understood that, despite certain media publications’ distortion over the years, any distance from my father and my choice to not allow him to have contact with our children, was for one reason: to protect them,” the Duchess continued.

“I trusted that the authorities were doing the same for other families,” Meghan added. “Although the breadth of what has now been uncovered is more sickening than one could ever imagine, my sincerest hope is that justice will be fully served and that the priority remains the safety and protection of innocent children.”
Meanwhile, Meghan’s step-sister, Samantha Markle, defended their dad, saying, “there is no merit in these disgusting allegations.”
“My brother is disgusting for making them up. He wants to destroy our dad. Shame on him,” Samantha told the Daily Mail on Thursday, October 22.
She continued, “My brother first came out with these lies a few weeks ago when the cash from my dad was cut off. He has used dad as a cash cow for years and once the money stopped he made up the most outrageous lies he could to try and make money from the media.”
