The former Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, is speaking out about serious accusations against her long-estranged dad, Thomas Markle, and she revealed the alleged existence of a mysterious letter.
According to NBC News, Meghan’s comments came as her dad was accused of having “possessed child sexual abuse images” by his son. Tom Markle Sr., who has not been charged with anything, released a statement to Daily Mail, denying the claims as “sick lies” and adding that they were “the worst thing anyone could accuse me of.” Samantha Markle, Meghan’s half-sister, defended their dad, saying, “There is no merit in these disgusting allegations whatsoever.”
The claims were first published by the Sun, a British tabloid, which reported that Tom Markle Sr., who is now in Florida, is under investigation in the Philippines, after his son claimed he discovered “hundreds, if not thousands” of child sex abuse images at his dad’s home.
“I am deeply distressed at the news that has come to light in the last 24 hours, and my thoughts are with any children who may have been harmed,” Meghan said in her first statement on the situation, according to People. “I hope it can now be understood that, despite certain media publications’ distortion over the years, any distance from my father and my choice to not allow him to have contact with our children, was for one reason: to protect them.”
Meghan Markle Wrote That She ‘Trusted’ Authorities Would Protect Families

“I trusted that the authorities were doing the same for other families,” Meghan said in the statement.
“Although the breadth of what has now been uncovered is more sickening than one could ever imagine, my sincerest hope is that justice will be fully served and that the priority remains the safety and protection of innocent children.”
Then, she revealed the existence of a letter.
“In 2018, a letter was sent to the Metropolitan Police and Royalty and Specialist Protection. That letter was subsequently shared with me. It made troubling and disturbing allegations against my father and I was given assurances that these were being investigated,” she continued.
A source explained to NBC why Meghan didn’t make the allegations public in 2018. “When she was made aware of these allegations in 2018 after they were reported to the police, they remained just that — allegations,” the source told NBC.
“To have repeated them publicly at that stage would not only have potentially exposed her to civil action for making unsubstantiated claims, but she had also been advised that doing so could jeopardize any subsequent investigation,” the source added.
Metropolitan Police Are Investigating Meghan Markle’s Letter Claim
Metropolitan Police told Reuters that the agency is working to verify the claims about the letter.
Police told Reuters they were aware of “media reports that officers from the Met’s Royalty and Specialist Protection Command were involved in the passing on of a letter in 2018.”
“We are undertaking enquiries internally in an effort to confirm this,” added police.
The Duchess of Sussex and her husband, Prince Harry, recently relocated back to Great Britain with their two kids, Archie and Lilibet.
