Britt McHenry, a press adviser for the U.S. State Department, is embroiled in controversy over an alleged thrown drink at a Washington Wizards game.

According to Page Six, McHenry “was forced to resign” on Thursday, October 22, 2026, after being accused of “getting into a heated confrontation at the Washington Wizards vs. Milwaukee Bucks game the night before.” She “was promoted and fired within 24 hours,” a source told Page Six. Video emerged of the controversy, which you can watch here.

Who is Britt McHenry? “With a MS in Broadcast Journalism from Northwestern University and 15 years of experience in sports, political, news, and digital media, I am a versatile and seasoned reporter who can cover a wide range of topics and events,” her LinkedIn bio says. “I have anchored primetime shows for Fox News Media and FOX 5 DC, as well as reported for ESPN, delivering high-quality and engaging content to millions of viewers and listeners.”

The page says she had only worked as a press advisor for the State Department for two months. Before that, she was working as a part-time journalist for the Spectator. She spent four years as a Fox News host. The Washington Times also reported that McHenry is no longer working for the U.S. State Department, which declined to comment.

What is McHenry accused of doing?

It all started when a fan allegedly “began heckling” player Kyle Kuzma, Page Six reported. TMZ reported that McHenry was caught “on video throwing a drink at a fan during a heated altercation at an NBA game.”

According to TMZ, people close to McHenry claim that the fan was making inappropriate comments about Kuzma’s model fiancee, Winnie Harlow, which started the fracas. Witnesses alleged to TMZ that inappropriate things were also said to McHenry and “things were thrown at her, too.”

As McHenry left the arena, she blew kisses and waved as boos erupted, TMZ reported. Sources also alleged to TMZ that McHenry left the game on her own.

Britt McHenry Was Previously Suspended by ESPN

According to Page Six, in 2015, ESPN suspended McHenry when she was allegedly “caught on camera berating an employee of a towing company in DC, telling the staffer they had ‘no education’ or ‘skill set.’” She had worked at the sports network since 2014.

The suspension was for one week, according to ESPN. Among other comments, she is accused of telling the worker, “Maybe if I was missing some teeth, they would hire me, huh?”

“In an intense and stressful moment, I allowed my emotions to get the best of me and said some insulting and regrettable things,” she tweeted then. “As frustrated as I was, I should always choose to be respectful and take the high road. I am so sorry for my actions and will learn from this mistake.”

She left Fox News after receiving a settlement of sexual harassment claims she made against the network, Deadline reported. “I am very proud to have to stood up for my rights and hope that I have empowered other women to do the same. Although I fully stand by the truth of my allegations, I am pleased to put this matter behind me and move forward with my career,” she said in a statement at that time.
