Advent calendars have become one of the biggest viral trends of the holiday season, with shoppers taking to social media to unbox their purchases and share whether the content is worth the price. From affordable options like retailers Target, CVS, and Five Below, which offer calendars in the $20 range, to luxury versions from high-end designers, there’s something for nearly every budget. In fact, Chanel has even jumped on the trend with a luxury advent calendar priced at more than $2,000, according to one Instagram account.

It seems Kim Kardashian and her team at SKIMS also wanted a piece of the holiday fun, introducing an Accessories Advent Calendar priced at $148. However, after customers began sharing TikTok videos of themselves opening the 12 days of gifts, the reaction wasn’t quite what the brand may have hoped for.

Several shoppers expressed disappointment with the seemingly modest selection of accessories in the 12-day Accessories Advent Calendar from Kim Kardashian’s SKIMS brand. Several social media users shared videos of themselves opening the calendar, only to be outraged and in disbelief as they questioned whether the items justified the high price tag.

A TikTok video has garnered over five million views, showing a woman unboxing each compartment of the advent calendar, with her frustration seemingly growing as she reveals the contents. Among the items she discovers are hair ties, SKIMS hair clips, a small squishy toy, keychains, and beige bra straps that appear to double as hair bands.

According to the SKIMS website, a description of the accessories advent calendar does tease some of the contents inside: “A dozen reasons to celebrate. Count down to the holidays with this SKIMS accessories advent calendar, featuring twelve days of fun surprises. From hair accessories to keychains and more, unwrap a mix of playful items and everyday favorites. All packaged in a festive advent calendar box.”

Another TikTok user also shared her unboxing sharing that she hoped box No. 1 with its big size would be a phone case only to end up with a bear keychain. It only seemed to go downhill from there when she discovered box No.2 held “unpacked hair ties.”

“Is this really setting the tone for the calendar? Are we serious?” She states. As she opens box No. 3, she only discovers more unpackaged hair ties.

Fans flooded the comment sections of these unboxing videos to share their disbelief over the contents of the $148 advent calendar. Some even joked that the accessories looked like items someone might find underneath their couch cushions. One TikTok user took the criticism a step further, quipping, “Kim cleared out her car.”

Other TikTok users commented, “did she say skims or scams?” Another shared, “worst part is that this is SOLD OUT online.”

“Box full of pranks,” another person wrote. “A chocolate advent calendar is more exciting,” another person shared.

As of this writing, Kardashian has not commented on the negative feedback over her accessories advent calendar.
