With White House press secretary Katie Zacharia fired after just five days on the job, could a world-famous rapper become her successor?
That’s what many are wondering after a possibly tongue-in-cheek social media post from an official in President Donald Trump’s administration floated Nicki Minaj as a potential candidate for the position.
A Job Interview?
On Sunday, October 25, White House Director of Communications Steven Cheung shared a brief video on social media, in which he and Minaj are together on Air Force Once, with Cheung seemingly interviewing Minaj for the role left vacated following Zacharia’s abrupt exit after one disastrous press conference.
Speaking with Cheung, the rapper described Trump as being “tough” when it came to foreign policy, claiming that the 80-year-old POTUS “outworks people who are half his age.”
She added: “We have a president that understands economics, first of all. You know, I’ve said before that the president is naturally a businessman. He’s worked his way out of not having a dollar left in the bank. So, if he can do that with himself, and his own finances, surely he knows what to do with the country.”
“I think we may have found the new White House Press Secretary,” Cheung wrote in the caption.
That was followed by the official White House X account responding by adding a eyeballs emojo to Cheung’s post.
Then, Trump advisor Alex Bruesewitz chimed in, writing a reply referencing the nickname bestowed upon her by fans, referencing her alter ego the Harajuku Barbie.
“Hey Barbz,” Bruesewitz wrote, “what do we think about this idea??”
A Passenger on Air Force One
While it remains to be seen whether Cheung’s social media post was a joke or an attempt to gauge response to Minaj becoming press secretary, speculation has arisen over the “WAP” singer’s presence aboard Air Force One while accompanying President Trump to a rally in Port Huron, Michigan.
Minaj shared a video on social media of herself aboard the presidential jet, and was later photographed exiting the plane upon its arrival.
Trump’s ‘No. 1 Fan’
Minaj has proven to be a vocal advocate of President Trump, joining a select group of celebrity supporters that includes Kid Rock, Scott Baio, Jon Voight, Ted Nugent and the late Hulk Hogan.
Minaj demonstrated that when she gushed about the president during a praise-filled speech she gave back in January, with Trump introducing her as “the greatest and most successful female rapper in history.”
“Well, I don’t know what to say,” Minaj began after clasping hands with Trump, “but I will say that I am probably the president’s No. 1 fan. And that’s not going to change. And the hate or what people have to say — it does not affect me at all. It actually motivates me to support him more.”
She added: “And it’s gonna motivate all of us to support him more. We’re not going to let them get away with bullying him. The smear campaigns, it’s not going to work. He has a lot of force behind him, and God is protecting him. Amen?”
