And as the process inches closer to an announcement, once prominent voice is throwing support toward the idea of Turner. Pierce Brosnan, who previously played the iconic character.
Brosnan spoke about the new James Bond in an interview with Vanity Fair.
In addition, there was a major clue from the reporter who broke the news that Craig was Bond last time around. Showbiz 411’s Roger Friedman reported, “Word on the street is that Callum Turner is the next James Bond. He’s tall, but not too tall. He can act, but not too much.”
Pierce Brosnan Called Callum Turner ‘So Strong’
Pierce Brosnan declared that he is “eagerly” awaiting the franchise’s decision. And it is yet to be scene whether the new Bond will follow Craig’s rough-and-tumble approach to the character or Brosnan’s suave demeanor.
“Oh, I’m just an audience member now. I’m just the man in the street who is eager to see who is going to play this epic role of cinematic history,” Brosnan told Vanity Fair. “All the men who are on the list now are actors I admire. Callum Turner is someone I’ve worked with, and he’s so strong. They all have a voice and a physique, and a presence on film. They all have longevity as actors, all of these young men.”
Added Brosnan: “Whoever plays the role, I wish him the very best of life and strength and courage. You know, it’s hard to tell who it would be, but I eagerly await to hear the news and the celebration of the next James Bond.”
Of course, a final decision has not been announced yet, and Turner is just one of a handful of actors still being talked about. But it’s perhaps notable that Turner’s name was specifically mentioned by Brosnan.
Jack Lowden Is Reportedly the Other Finalist to Be the New James Bond
Who else might still be in the running?
According to Variety, final auditions likely took place in London with Jack Lowden as the other finalist. Two other names have been “floated,” Variety reported, naming Josh O’Connor and Jacob Elordi.
Friedman focused on Turner’s wife, Dua Lipa, being involved already. “Callum’s wife, Dua Lipa, sings the Bond theme song. Of course. If he’s Bond, why would they get another singer? Maybe Elton John can join her?” he wrote.
So who is Callum Turner then?
“Born in 1990 in London, England, Callum Turner grew up in the Chelsea neighborhood of that same city. Turner initially began his career as a model, booking his first campaign in 2010 and working for companies like Reebok and Next plc,” according to Rotten Tomatoes.
In 2011, he started acting, appearing in the movie “Zero.” He was next in a short film called “Human Beings and then starred in two television series called “Leaving” and “The Town,” according to Rotten Tomatoes. Turner also starred on Showtime in “The Borgias” and in the “Victor Frankenstein” movie. In 2015, he was in the movie “Green Room.”
